Kathleen Smith

M.Sc., Registered Psychologist (R0957)

I graduated from Acadia University in Wolfville, NS with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Clinical Psychology.  I have spent the last four years in private practice at Dr. Pure and Associates, following early clinical experience working with patients in an outpatient mental health center and in school settings.  With my clinical training and experience, I can provide assessment and intervention for children, youth, and their families.  My practice includes providing thorough assessment and intervention for mental health issues related to anxiety, depression, and behavioural disorders, as well as issues related to emotion regulation and self-esteem. In addition, I offer comprehensive assessments to investigate learning and attention issues. My therapeutic approach is guided by research and informed primarily by a Cognitive-Behavioural orientation. I also draw from Dialectical-Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Attachment Theory when tailoring my approach for each patient. I enjoy finding creative ways to help children and youth understand connections between their thoughts, emotions and behaviours, as well as finding and fostering the resilience within each client. Above all, my practice is client-centered and grounded in the belief that a strong therapeutic alliance facilitates positive change.  I am registered with my licensing board, Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP) and professional organization, The Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS).
