Kathleen Smith

M.Sc., Psychologist (Candidate Register-C10735)

I graduated from Acadia University in Wolfville, NS with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Clinical Psychology.  My clinical experience includes working with patients in an outpatient mental health center and in school settings.  With my clinical training and experience, I can provide assessment and intervention for children and youth, and their families.  My areas of expertise include assessment of neurodevelopmental issues such as learning disabilities and attention issues. I also provide assessment and intervention for mental health issues related to anxiety, depression, and behavioural disorders, as well as issues related to emotion regulation and self-esteem. My therapeutic approach is guided by research and informed mostly by a Cognitive-Behavioural orientation. I also draw from Dialectical-Behaviour Therapy and Attachment Theory when tailoring my approach for each patient. I enjoy finding creative ways to help children and youth understand connections between their thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Above all, my practice is client-centered and grounded in the belief that a strong therapeutic alliance facilitates positive change.  I am registered with my licensing board, Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology  (NSBEP) and professional organization, The Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS).
